So, finally back to some social dancing in the new year with a dance group practice of a new routine with DanceExpress, and some classes.
Last week i met the tallest man in Wales who shared his woes for finding a salsa partner. And attended some fabulous classes with Andy of DancaLatina in Cardiff: very clear instruction, walks around helping everyone at their level, and explains the body and how it works and influences the dance steps. It was interesting being a new dancer as no one knows if you can dance or not: you don't get asked and can't expect to do so much in your dances.

This week some classes with Dancexpress again and it was great to meet up with the other regulars, hear the banter and refresh on some Foxtrot - which seems to be a slow, slow Quickstep. Then the class gained in size with some salsa beginners which we all helped with tension in the frame, looking up, and relaxing in the dancing. Finally, some students came along to a Paso Doble session. They added energy to the room and picked up the dancing and the attitude just like that. We were helped along by 'Somebody Told Me' by The Killers!

Still antsy about not being able to social dance just yet, but this is a good start for the year. Its interesting how the body gets used to moving, and when you take a break from dancing salsa for instance, you forget, or get rusty, and sometimes end up craving the movements and the connections.
Here's a pic of Dancexpress in action just before New Year's - me and Piret our instructress on the right, and proof that i was dancing in sync for a bit.
